| Assistant Instructor - Sunny Chan (2nd Dan) |
| |
| As a young boy, Sunny was captivated by samurai movies. How
did they manage to defeat their opponents with just a few strokes
of their sleek swords? He was eager to discover their secrets,
but never knew where to go until he was introduced to the art
of Aikido through Steven Seagal's movie "Above the Law".
This revelation led him to pursue this noble martial art, and
in 1990 he began his training under the tutelage of the President
of Aikikai (Singapore). Sunny was strongly motivated by the
legendary prowess of O-Sensei, the founder of Aikido. It was
the amazing stories about this remarkable man and how he was
able to defeat multiple attackers simultaneously that fascinated
him. To him, it was just like in the movies. His deepest wish
is to one day attain the level of perfection in Aikido where
he too can begin to understand the magic of O-Sensei.
In 2000, as part of his journey towards excellence in the
techniques of waza, he attended the International Aikido Federation
Seminar in Tokyo. The feeling of practicing Aikido at the
Hombu dojo was such an inspiring experience. And he is always
sure to bring that inspirational spirit to his classes.
Sunny received his Nidan (2nd Dan) in 2002 and serves as
an assistant instructor with the Aikido Federation (Singapore).
His philosophy is simple: train, train and train. But have
fun too! This is exactly what you can expect of Sunny. |
